Jesse Hazelip “The Belle of The Brawl” Solo Exhibition.

Opening night of Oakland-based artist Jesse Hazlip presents his interpretation of the war in Iraq. Exhibit is currently on display at 941 Geary Gallery in San Francisco until Feb. 26.

The artist’s depiction of mixed media art of wild buffalo and heron birds with war weaponry in place of their heads aims to examine the social and political patterns of war as the same mistakes are repeated over and over again.

I present to you the "Racoon Rasta".

The 5th Annual Supermarket Street Sweep! 12/4/2010

I was fortunate to be apart of "The Supermarket Street Sweep" last year.  Killer race through the bustling streets of SF with multiple check-points.  An unusual alley cat in that it requires racers to check in at various supermarkets spread out through San Francisco to purchase non-perishable food. The race is split into two divisions: speed or cargo. Racers for the speed race expect to spend anywhere from $15-30, and the cargo racers spend hundreds of dollars. It takes a financial commitment to contribute to this amazing event. Last year the event raised 7,507 lbs of food, which is over 6,000 meals! Great race for a great cause. Check out the photo opt - 1st column, 2nd row.

Race Details

WHEN: Saturday, December 4th, High Noon.

WHERE: Cupid Span's (Bow & Arrow) at Folsom and Embarcadero.

CARGO RACE: Bring back the heaviest load of food from the designated grocery stores.

SPEED RACE: Buy specific food items from the designated grocery stores and get to the finish as soon as possible.

WHAT TO BRING: Bag, box or crate (whatever you rock to the grocery store), a lock and money to buy items (suggested $15-30, whatever is comfy, everything helps).

Both races end @ 4pm. Prize party to follow.

All items will be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank.

Pearl Harbor x Hawaii.

A trip to the Hawaiian islands. Flew into Oahu for five and spent the last four days in Maui. Tropical weather, great food, and miles of beaches and hiking. First stop, Pearl Harbor. The skies that day were amazing or maybe skies in Hawaii are always amazing.

Testing out the hot seat. Tat-tat-tat-tat.

Misspelled - Reyes.

Not to long ago, I pulled over to take a quick picture of this Reyes piece, only to find out that he is going to have an art gallery coming up on July 7th. Really excited to check out more of his work.

Recap: St. Jude's Alley cat Fundraiser.

Photos from St. Jude Children's Hospital alley cat fundraiser.  My first in Oakland and out of 61 riders I placed 21st. Not bad for being lost half of the time. 35 miles of long hilly windy roads.
Getting directions and rules. Locate the red balloons he says..

Greg Gossel.

Dropped by White Wall gallery to checkout new works of Greg Gossel's opening Sleepwalking. The show will be running from June 12 - July 3, 2010. Gossel applies multiple layers of collage, on silkscreen prints and wood panel. By building up the layers and at the same time weathers the surface down by sanding or tearing it away, he is able to reveal a little history beneath. I love these massive prints. Amazing indeed.

Fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital

It's about that time again for another race. I enjoy making it to these bike races especially if it is for a good cause. The "Race to Save St. Jude Children's Research Hospital" fundraiser. Got myself a little training to do, this alley cat race is a bit short of 45 miles total.

List of sponsors.

B-DAY :>

Photobucket
Ahhh.. Another birthday, another year. I have always loved how my birthday falls on Memorial day weekend, days off work, Memorial day sales, & BBQ's . Instead of celebrating with a birthday cake this year, we decided to do beer bongs topped with a shot of Patron (What we refer to as "A Happy Ending"). Birthday extravaganza begins now.

RECAP: SF SPRINTS.

This past weekend, I was conditioning myself to race at SF Sprints. The race was awesome, a little drag racing action one-on-one, with the winner advancing to the next stage. Being in a rush for this event, at the last minute I accidentally locked myself out and had to take the door off its hinges to get back in.  Didn't make it in time for the registration, but definitely a great turn out. Currently working on a couple pictures I took for my photography final - post up soon.
Good times.

MANOR WEST.

A friend was in town this past week and we went out to Manor West to get smashed. Very nice venue, but the DJ was spinning some lousy top 40 music with some weird indigenous kids running around on the projector.

Had a few to drink.
Don't drink & drive!

SFSU PITFIRE.

This spring 2010 semester, Ceramics is by far on the top of the list as one of my favorite classes. I have always love working with my hands. Went off-campus facility at the Romberg Tiburon Center to do a pit firing and raku. Pit firing is the oldest known method of firing clay. The pieces are place together in a pit dug into the ground and are then covered with wood, sawdust, metal oxides, and salts. The pit is then set on fire and after cooling, removed and cleaned to reveal patterns and colors left by ash and salt deposits.
